Customer Service is Key

We have always heard that keeping an existing customer costs less overall than trying to solicit new business. We also know that if we concentrate all our efforts on that while our competition is focusing on gaining new customers we will eventually lose. Obviously, we have to do both. But, we will leave marketing to the experts and go with what we know. How do we retain our existing customers?

A.                   Quality.  Of course, you have to offer a great product and service at fair prices.  That’s a given.

B.                    Convenience. Let’s face it; it is one of the most challenging aspects of a service company. Serving our customers, in a timely manner, trying to accommodate their schedule without staying open 24/7 is not an easy feat. And in peak seasons when demand for service is high, it gets even more challenging. But, it is almost a mantra at Chapman Air “we will not lose a customer because we could not meet their scheduling request.”

C.                   Care. It is the most essential element. First of all, it is impossible to deliver A or B without C. Even though we strive for 100% on all points, if we miss the mark at all a caring attitude can go a long way in resolving problems.  A customer will recognize and appreciate genuine concern when they see it. We believe this is why we at Chapman Air & Heat have retained so many customers these past 30 + years!

HOLY MACKEREL - What's up with Freon?

HOLY MACKEREL!!!!! The cost of R-22 FREON for central air conditioners has blasted into orbit within the last few weeks. Yes, we all knew this was coming but folks, it is here. After checking with several supply houses, we also were told A/C companies may be rationed on the number of drums purchased. Can you say “demand”? We have thousands upon thousands of homeowners whose A/C units require R-22. This is not a small price increase, this is a HUGE price increase should your unit need to be repaired. So, if you have an A/C unit that has given you problems in the past, you need to prepare for expensive repairs if you choose to keep repairing.

As you may recall, as of January 1, 2010, manufacturers could no longer make and ship units using R-22. All new units made and shipped come with 410-A Freon (Eco-friendly) since that date. However, manufacturers could make the units and ship “dry” (no Freon) and R-22 could be added in the field by the contractor. This filled a certain need for customers who only wanted an outdoor unit installed with the use of R-22. What was not taken into consideration (or maybe it was) was the cost of R-22. As R-22 Freon continues being phased out, the price will keep rising.

Things that are most important to do are make sure your unit is in tip top shape by having annual tune-ups, keep filters changed or cleaned as required and report any problems as soon as you know one exists. The best plan is to plan ahead to replace R-22 units. You will pay more upfront for a new air conditioning system that is in compliance with the EPA 410-A regulation but you will enjoy energy savings, better indoor comfort and no worries about Freon being phased out anytime soon.

Revamped website

Well, we have finally done it. We have finished revamping our website, and I am pretty pleased with how it came out. The main reason for re-doing it was to make it more user friendly, as well as tackle some issues brought about by the Google Panda. We had to take a careful look at ourselves and our message. We are providing air conditioning service and repair, and our old website had become more geared to the techie out there, rather than that father whose furnace just gave its dying breath at 2 in the morning. So we wanted our site to be able to give him answers right off the bat. you need service/ BAM we got service.

We have technicians 24 hours a day, and we have someone on the phones 24 hours a day. No automated jargon. At the same time we still wanted to be a source of information for those who have relied on us in the provision of technical expertise, manuals and diagrams. We believe to have come up with the best marriage between those two aspects of our company, and this new site should cater and be more friendly to all. Well take a look and please let us know where we could improve it..

Here is a screenshot of the new site. The menu options we decided to lay along the top as we believed this would be easier for that first time visitor.

Below is our old site, in all its glory, and as you can probably tell - you needed a guide to go through that site. That is what sometimes happens when you are too close to something. It makes sense to you, but to someone else, it might be a little tricky.

So, there you have it. Our new and improved website, found at www.chapmanair.com, please let us know what you think.

Link Building for Air Conditioning Companies

SUMMARY:
Link building is an important aspect of search engine optimization. Search engines view a link as a vote of confidence in a website or webpage. The more links from related sources the greater the webpage's importance.

Link building is an important aspect of search engine optimization. Search engines view a link as a vote of confidence in a website or webpage. The more links from related sources the greater the web page's importance.

When requesting links, use an email template that can be easily customized for specific requests. To locate prospective link partners, search Google or Yahoo for related keywords or phrases.

When looking for partners, use this no-nonsense guide to request links from related websites.

Related
The content on the webpage you would like to link to should be related to the content of your page. However, competitors are unlikely to be willing link partners, regardless of the quality of your website. Look for websites that are related but not competing. As an example, if you are an Air Conditioning Contractor then you could could link to related businesses like, roofers, builders, sheet metal suppliers or home remodellers. Adding a link to a wholesale reseller of handmade ostrich skin boots would definitely not be advised.

Current
The content on the website you are requesting the link from should be up to date like the air conditioning coupons here. A new link on a page with a lot of outdated or inaccurate content will not typically benefit your website (or reputation).

Valuable The content on the website you are requesting the link from should also contain valuable and unique content. This goes both ways; if you want people to link to your website, you must also provide useful content. This is very hard to do in the Air Conditioning and Heating industry - as most of the technology takes a while to change or get upgraded.

Seek Quality
Only request links from quality websites. If a website is cluttered with advertisements and is not a quality website, it is unlikely that the search engines will not value the link much. Make every effort to seek out quality websites.

When sending an email request be sure to include the following:

Personalize
Personalize the email request, be sure to mention the domain of interest and perhaps a specific web page for the link exchange. Personalizing the email will help the reader discern that your email is legitimate. This would also show the prospective link that you have been to their website, you are a human, and not an automated bot request from a link farm.

Compliment
Describe what you like about the website (be specific). Tell the webmaster that you feel their website has value, and that is why you would like a link to them and why they would like a link to you.

Explain
Explain why a link to your website would be relevant and beneficial to a specific website visitors. In your email request, detail how customers would benefit from the information on your website.

Be Specific
Provide specific anchor text and the exact web page URL and web page description on your website that you would like the webmaster to link to. Reciprocate and Thank If appropriate provide details about any links back that you have provided to the website. Also, be sure to thank the webmaster for considering the request.

Building links is an important aspect to increase the popularity of a website.

Is it Time to Fire up Your Home Furnace?

As the weather begins to change and we bid farewell to summer, its time to start thinking about one of the most important pieces of equipment in your home: the furnace. Most homeowners forget about the furnace until it is too late, and, if you had any problems with yours last winter, then now is definitely the time to take action.

Waiting to fire up your furnace until you actually need it could cause problems. It happens every year, the first cold snap hits and the phones at the heating and air conditioning companies light up and many people find themselves going a few days without heat as they compete with every other homeowner with furnace issues for an appointment. Don’t be left out in the cold, act now.

Heating systems are usually reliable and require very little repair if they are given regular maintenance. But without this regular maintenance a furnace could lose efficiency or cease to function all together.

To give your furnace and heating system a test run, set the thermostat at least five degrees warmer than the current temperature in the room. In a minute or two your heater should come on and you should be able to feel the heat blowing into the room. If the system does not come on you can check a few things before calling in a pro.

The first place to look is the thermostat. It may sound simple, but check to see that it is turned on. All modern thermostats have an on off switch, but they may not be clearly labeled with an “on” position. The “on” position is usually labeled “heat” or “cool.” Obviously you want to make sure the switch is in the “heat” position. If you have a programmable thermostat, refer to your user manual on how to bypass the current setting. If the heater still does not come on you’ll want to check to see if your thermostat has a replaceable battery and check it. There is nothing worse than paying one hundred and fifty bucks or more for a service technician come out to the house just to change a battery.

If your heater still does not fire up, look for an on/off switch at the furnace itself. It looks just like a light switch and is often attached to the unit itself, or very nearby. Make sure the switch is on. If your switch is on and the furnace has still yet to run, check the breakers in your electric panel. The breaker could have tripped and the solution to the problem could be as easy as flipping the switch. If all switches are on, and you are certain you have paid all your gas / electric bills then its time to call in the experts. You could have a small problem, or a catastrophic one, but from this point on, you need someone who knows the workings of the system, as well as electrical knowledge to troubleshoot and fix the problem. Call Chapman Air & Heat at 214-340-4999 and a technician will be able to come out and tell you exactly what needs to be done. We also offer maintenance programs, to save you all these hassles by coming out at regular intervals and make sure your system is in the best shape possible.
